From now Uber will allow the riders to make free calls to their driver. VOIP feature in your Uber app will enable voice call through the app.  In the last year October, this was announced and now it is being rolled out in India. Like before, still users can make regular voice calls by using the cellular network.

Uber has permitted VOIP-based calling for its driver partners as well. Just like the riders, the driver can also make free calls to them. They might ask for microphone access that is claimed to be used to enable the in-app calling functionally. But nevertheless, the company can use the granted access to record conversation.

The main intention of Uber’s new move is to let the drivers and riders communicate with each other for free. However, their respective phone numbers will remain private.

On Saturday evening, the Uber users in India are seeing the VOIP calling features. Gadgets 360 were able to verify the rollout of the new features both in the Android and iOS version of this app.

However, you can start making calls to your Uber Driver with the latest version of the Uber app on your smartphone.
