IIT Hyderabad is the first Indian Institute to offer B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence

Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad is ready to launch a full-time B.Tech course in Artificial Intelligence from the upcoming Academic year (2019-2020). According to the source, IIT-Hyderabad will be the first institution in India and the third in the whole world to introduce a full-fledged B.Tech program in AI. According to Indian Express, students who will crack JEE-Advanced will be eligible for the admission and the student strength will be about 20. Variety of topics like signal processing, algorithms, robotics and ethical impact of AI and other associated technologies will be included in the course. The students graduating from IIT Hyderabad holding B-Tech degree in AI will have a deep understanding of both practical elements of machine learning and AI and fundamentals of theory.

The main aim of the programme is to turn the students into industry leaders and internationally meet the imperative demands of the nation. IIT-Hyderabad is already providing an M-Tech program in Machine Learning-Artificial Intelligence and M.Tech in Data Science. The organization is also planning to start a minor in ‘AI and Humanity’ in cooperation with its Department of Liberal Arts. UB Desai, the director, IIT Hyderabad, said, “The basic aim is to create a complete ecosystem for AI Academics and Research at IIT Hyderabad. This involves B.Tech, M.Tech. and different Minor Programs in AI. Moreover, the R&D will be strongly entwined with academics.”
