Facebook Officially Apologizes After Complains Drop-In from Employees Indicating Existing Racist Company Culture

This Friday, Facebook issued an apology letter after an anonymous post complained that the work culture of the company is racist against their Hispanic, black, and Asian employees.

In a statement, Facebook’s vice president heading corporate communications, Bertie Thomson said that racism should not affect anybody anywhere in the world. He apologized on behalf of Facebook and said that this kind of behavior goes against the morals of the company and that they are attentive towards what everyone has to say so that they can take up steps to make the situation better and just for everyone.

The complaint posted by the anonymous group claims to have both ex and current employees of the company. They said that over the years, things in this scope have deteriorated. Mark Luckie, a former employee of Facebook in a letter issued back in November 2018 also suggested that the company has an underlying issue with people of color.

The recent post took a direct aim at how issues like racism, biases, aggression, and discrimination form into a hefty problem from collecting small incidents. Cornering a particular race also means that they are tagged with specific quotas and their opinions are sabotaged.

The post also mentioned various instances of racial discrimination. In one such incident, a program manager was asked to clean their mess up by two white colleagues and in another one, Facebook’s human resources department took no action upon reporting an incident.

There have also been allegations where anonymous negative reviews or feedbacks were given in the company’s performance system in an attempt to sabotage the performance evaluation of a fellow employee belonging to a minority race. As a matter of fact, CNBC previously came out with a report suggesting that Facebook’s performance evaluation system lacks a lot of security encapsulation and can be accessed by employees for unethical penalizing.

The anonymous group said in the post that their external vulnerability can no way be afforded at this point in time because the company they work in has already made them vulnerable. All they are seeking through the post is to share the story of discrimination and hope for change.
