Remembering the Beverly Hills ‘badass’ Shannen Doherty and Her Journey

Shannen Doherty’s untimely demise on 13th July 2024, has left her fans in a completely heartbroken stage. With her 4 decade-long career, she has been battling cancer since 2017 she died at the age of 53. Her fans are mourning her death. Leslie Sloane, her publicist said, “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” on Saturday.
Her co-star Jennie Garth admitted in 2014, “There were times when we wanted to claw each other’s eyes out,” but as they grew older they grew closer to one another. Garth also mentioned that Dorothy acknowledged that she struggles to handle fame, which made Garth confused. Dorothy said once, “I was very confused back then about what I wanted for myself, and the attention was way too much.” “I didn’t always handle it that well,” she added.
She added more, “And in truth, I was just shooting myself in the foot because the more I fought it, the more the celebrity took over versus the actor, and then the press ran with it.” In another interview, she said, “Maybe my career would have taken a different direction if I’d been wiser and older, but I wasn’t. I started young and I got 90210 kind of success very early, and it came at a time in my life where I was a petrified kid.”
Despite her struggle with acknowledging fame, she always claimed herself to be a ‘badass’ due to her carefree attitude and the charm she naturally possessed. She started her career with the 1985 movie ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’. The cast had Helen Hunt and Sarah Jessica Parker also. After three years she became a part of a high school clique in the cult 1988 teen drama Heathers, alongside Winona Ryder, Lisanne Falk, and Kim Walker.
In 2017 she announced that her cancer had started to reduce but, it reappeared within the next 2 years. During that time she was a part of the reboot of 90210 cast. During that time she said, that she was doing this to honor her former co-star Luke Perry who died at the age of 52 after he suffered from a stroke. She said, “It’s so weird for me to be diagnosed and then somebody who was seemingly healthy to go first.” Doherty also added, “It was really shocking. And the least I could do to honor him was to do that show.”
The second time when she was diagnosed with cancer once again she tried to keep that a secret for some time. And she chose not to tell her fellow cast members and crew about her condition. The only person she confided in was Brian Austin Green. “I had moments of great anxiety where I thought, ‘I can’t really do this,'” she clarified. In November 2023, she said in an interview, “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating,” during her ongoing treatment process.
