South Korean Actor Lee Sun-kyun who is profoundly known for his amazing acting in the Oscar-winning film ‘Parasite’ was found dead. The actor was only 48 years old and he was found dead in a car in one of Seoul’s main parks on Wednesday.

It is still unclear whether Lee has taken his own life or not but police said that he left home after writing a note. The actor was previously noticed for drug abuse and he had been under investigation since October for alleged drug use. The actor was suspected of taking drugs with an employee in a bar in Seol.

During the investigation, the actor said that he had just taken what she had given him without the knowledge of illicit drugs. The hostess has previously said that he used to do drugs at her home many times and Lee denied the fact. The report further added that drug test results came negative or came with inconclusive results.

The Police regretted the fact that Lee died amidst the investigation but it was only “conducted with consent” and there was no such pressure from the police. HODU&U Entertainment, Lee’s agency said, “There is no way to contain the sorrow and despair. We respectfully ask that you refrain from spreading false facts based on speculation… so that the final journey will not be unfair.”

Lee was married to actress Jeon Hye-jin and had two kids. The actor has a career span of more than two decades and he has taken part in many movies. Not only films but he was the lead in dozens of films and TV shows which made him one of the household heroes back in 2010.

However, his most notable work was in ‘Parasite’ which won multiple Oscars. He played the character of the father in the wealthy family that was later infiltrated with poor people posing as different unrelated individuals persons to come to work. The film won a total of four Oscars in the year 2020. It became the first non-English language to win the Academic Awards.

Drug abuse has become the central issue as his extensive interest in the drug and the investigation has caused him a lot of damage both in his career and reputation. He is dismissed from a mystery TV series named No Way Out, which started shooting in October.

Drug offenses are handled strictly in South Korea. President Yoon Suk Yeol has vowed a crackdown on drugs. As a result, the authorities have expanded its department for drug crimes and the national police chief has also vowed “a total war to stem out drug crimes.” Even consumption of marijuana is a serious crime in South Korea which carries prison sentences of up to five years.

Not only Lee but other South Korean celebrities are being investigated for the usage of drugs. Earlier this month, K-pop star G-Dragon was taken in custody and cleared for drug allegations after weeks of investigation. Similarly, Actor Yoo Ah-in is also doing a trial for drug use.
